WHAT’S THE DEAL WITH ABSENTEE BALLOT REQUEST TIMING?

The absentee ballot request period is shorter, starting 11-weeks before the elections and ending 11 days before.

Reducing the absentee ballot request time is never a good look when it comes to democracies.

WHAT’S THE DEAL WITH ABSENTEE BALLOT REQUEST TIMING?

Taken from Election Code of Georgia:

Article 33 (2)

In case of inability to arrive at the polling station on the polling day, the voter shall be transferred to apply to the Precinct Election Commission for voting through the ballot box at least 2 days before the date.

Voter information is provided by the District Election Commission to the relevant precinct election commission no later than 2 days before the polling day.

No clear winner here as Georgian electoral law has no ‘start time’ but the ability to request an absentee ballot up until 2 days before the election is more forgiving than Georgia’s (the state) 11 days hard stop.
